What is HOTO？
HOTO, short for home tools, was founded to bring sleek modern design to your run-of-the-mill gadgets without sacrificing functionality.
From "home tools" to "the coolest tech gadgets," HOTO not only provides traditional home tools but is also dedicated to creating modern tools for a new lifestyle. Striving to get rid of complexity and to introduce intuition to seemingly mundane tasks, HOTO hopes to spark inspiration with its minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing tools. New possibilities arise from slowly driving in screws to gradually shaping one's ideal life.
HOTO belongs to the Xiaomi ecosystem, and it has been designing and manufacturing home tools for Xiaomi (Mijia) for years.
In July 2019, a brand-new power screwdriver —— Mijia 3.6V Cordless Screwdriver smashed the home tool market with over 40,000 units sold in less than 30 hours. In November 2019, another impressive product ——Mijia Precision Screwdriver was launched, and has since sold over 3 million pieces. All these products were designed and produced by HOTO.
To this day, HOTO Home Tools products have won a staggering number of 26 international design awards, Including 7 iF Design Awards, iF TOP 100 in Asia, Red Dot Design Awards, IDEA Design Awards, and Good Design Awards.
Why is HOTO?
Lidan Liu, the founder of HOTO, sorted out four points to be agreed on:
1. The category should have a significant pain point.
2. It had to be accessible and available to the great majority of the population.
3. The designer should empower the products with the value of design.
4. It aimed to create a new lifestyle: inspiring and creative.
With these 4 points to filter the hardware category, Lidan started HOTO in 2016.
With a robust design gene and rich experience, HOTO's R&D team gathers talents from Bosch, TTI, SATA, and other leading enterprises in the home tools industry. The design team members are from worldwide, such as Tongji University, Jiangnan University, Delft University of Technology, Umea University of Design, Central Saint Martins, etc.
Lidan Liu founded HOTO Technology in 2016. She is also an Associate Professor of the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University.
